Miners Back In Contention

15 February 2011

Leigh Miners Rangers thrashed East Hull in the National Conference Premier League, 64-12, to jump to third in the league table, and put themselves back in contention for the title.

Miners had struggled of late, and were trailing their cross-town rivals, Leigh East, and league leaders Thatto Heath Crusaders by a number of points. Indeed they were beaten by Heath 34-8 last month in a massive 4-pointer. Are they now back to their best ? They scored 11 tries, with winger Alistair Peters scoring 4 on his debut.

There were only 3 other Premier League games this weekend, with Wath Brow Hornets also scoring 11 tries as they beat struggling Wigan St.Judes 58-18. Bottom of the table, York Acorn also lost 24-31 to West Hull, and Saddleworth Rangers did their survival hopes no harm at all with a 14-18 win away at Wigan St.Patricks.
