Judes Relegated
28 March 2011
Wigan St.Judes were relegated from the National Conference Premier League on Saturday when they lost at home to cross-town rivals St.Pats, 18-34.
Having escaped relegation by a point the last two seasons, it was third time unlucky for the Wigan club, and they drop down to Division One. Their last season in that divison was in 2008 when they were promoted as Champions by 4 points ahead of York Acorn.
For Pats, however, it was a remarkable week, beating both Judes and Dudley Hill to lift themselves clear of the drop zone. There are now 4 clubs on 18 points, and if Dudley Hill win one of their games in hand then all four will be dragged into the relegation dogfight. York Acorn are also favourites for the drop with only 11 points from their 21 games.
At the top Thatto Heath and Leigh East are neck and neck with Leigh Miners and Siddal close behind. Hull Dockers have 3 games in hand on some of their rivals and they will have a final say in how things finish in a few weeks time.
In Division One there was a tremendous nattle at the top when Ince Rose Bridge visited Oulton Raiders and came away with a creditable 13-13 draw. Whilst in Division Two Hunslet Warriors beat Waterhead 16-26 and are now very close to claiming the Second Division title.
