Heath Stun Siddal In Final

30 May 2011

Thatto Heath Crusaders beat Siddal 30-18 in the 2011 National Conference Premier League Grand Final to take the title for the first time.

Heath led 12-10 at the break, and just as everyone was returning to their seats in anticipation of an enthralling second half, Heath full-back Quinn scurried in for a try which he duly converted and Siddal were left with a mountain to climb. They scored two further tries as the Halifax side tried to claw their way back into the game.

Heath were newly promoted back into the Premier League this season after a season in Division One, but they have played some exceptional rugby league, and have been up amongst the top 3 or 4 teams all season.

For Siddal it is the second consecutive year that they have been beaten in the Grand Final. Last year they lost to Leigh East, and coach Lee Greenwood was scathing in his criticism of some of his players. Whilst Heath coach Paul Hatton paid tribute to Greenwood and his men, he heaped praise upon the players who were relegated 2 years ago, promoted back to the Premier league and now are NCL Champions.

In the BARLA National Cup Final on Saturday, Sharlston Rovers defeated Fryston Warriors with a last minute try, winning 20-18 after being 18-16 down going into the final minute.
