Elland Scare Heath
25 January 2011
National Conference Premier League leaders Thatto Heath Crusaders were given an almighty scare in the Carnegie Challenge Cup First Round when Elland staged a second-half fightback
The Crusaders were cruising at 6-20 with 15 minutes remaining when Elland scored 2 quick tries and were only 4 points behind going into the final 10 minutes. Heath, however, held on but it will give Elland, who only joined the Conferernce this season great encouragement going into 2011.
In other Carnegie Cup fixtures, Leigh Miners gained revenge over West Hull, after the Humberside club beat them in their NCL Premier League fixture last week. Miners winning 26-10. Skirlaugh defeated Oulton Raiders 16-24 in a close game, and Raiders, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, will also take encouragement from this result.
A number of Cup games were postponed because of the weather and state of some pitches, but those games should be played this weekend - January 29/30.
